German Delegation Impressed by Romerike’s Efforts in Emission Reduction
A delegation of 23 German companies recently visited Romerike for a two-day program focused on learning how the region is tackling emissions in road transport and construction. The visit was part of Green Visits, hosted by Kunnskapsbyen’s Anette Gangnæs, who received top marks for organizing the experience. Delegation leader Jurek Schwekendiek praised the visit and commended the Norwegian companies for their openness and innovation.
One of the highlights was a hands-on demonstration of zero-emission construction machinery at Nasta’s facilities in Kjeller, guided by Sjur Wethal, Senior Advisor on Climate and Customer Solutions at Nasta. Delegates got to test the equipment firsthand while gaining insights into Nasta’s experience with selling and renting emission-free construction machinery over the years.
Jon Eriksen, Project Manager at Kunnskapsbyen, also presented the Cleancon EU project, focusing on emission reductions at construction sites. His talk emphasized the importance of public procurement and pilot projects in driving the transition to zero-emission construction in its early stages.
Romerike’s Dynamic Battery Industry Showcased
The delegation also explored Romerike’s burgeoning battery ecosystem, with several key companies demonstrating their expertise:
- Stena Recycling Norge: Country Manager Jon Emil Furuseth gave a tour of their facility at Ausenfjellet, which specializes in reusing and recycling high-capacity batteries, such as those found in electric vehicles. The company aims to become a European leader in battery recycling and reuse.
- Nordic Booster: CEO Trond Skaufel showcased mobile rapid chargers with built-in batteries, enabling high-power charging of electric machinery even in areas with limited or no grid capacity.
- Fusen Solar: Thor Christian Tuv captivated the delegation with a presentation in fluent German about Norway’s approach to solar energy and how Fusen Solar contributes to the renewable energy transition.
- Akershus Energi: Business Developer Olav Haga briefed delegates on the company’s work with grid integration and charging infrastructure. The transition to electric freight and public transport will demand extensive high-power charging networks, and Akershus Energi is already supporting projects like Posten Bring’s nationwide rollout of charging stations for heavy vehicles.
A Call for Future Collaboration
“This visit has been extremely informative, providing us with concrete examples of how Norwegian companies are advancing emission-free solutions,” said Jurek Schwekendiek, Project Manager at the E-Mobility Coordination Centre Schleswig-Holstein.
He expressed interest in hosting a reciprocal visit:
“We would gladly welcome a business delegation from Romerike to showcase how companies in Schleswig-Holstein are addressing these challenges.”
The exchange between the German and Norwegian companies exemplifies the mutual benefits of international collaboration in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
