Starting with 2017 all new buildings owned by the City of Oslo are planned as plus-energy-buildings, meaning the buildings will produce more energy than they use. All buildings will be connected to the grid and exchange energy with the existing system.

The Municipal Undertaking for the Social Service Buildings (in Norwegian: Omsorgsbygg) is a public building owner part of the City of Oslo. Omsorgsbygg owns the city’s kindergartens, fire stations, institutions and nursing homes. The public company owns and manages more than 900.000 m2 of buildings in Oslo.

Omsorgsbygg has an ambition to be front-runner in developing green and energy efficient buildings. All new buildings from 2017 are planned as plus-energy-buildings, meaning the buildings will produce more energy than they use. All buildings will be connected to the grid and exchange energy with the existing system.

In 2017 eight new plus-energy kindergartens will be constructed in Oslo. Two plus-energy nursing homes are also under planning. Omsorgsbygg is cooperating with research institutes in order to reduce risk and increase market knowledge on plus-energy-buildings.
